Heritage Commercial traces its roots back to 1977, when founder Jack Clark—a local developer in Ocala, Florida—established Heritage Management Corporation to oversee the apartments, warehouses, and other commercial buildings he built.
Over the years, Jack sold some of these assets but continued managing them for third-party clients. This introduced Heritage Management to a growing portfolio of diverse properties, including those from our very first clients, Ocala Industrial Properties and Tatone Properties, both of which we still proudly manage today almost 50 years later.
As Heritage continued to expand, we hired Bill Mozier as a Property Manager. Over the next several years, Bill played a pivotal role in growing and streamlining our operations. When Jack decided to retire, he handed over the reins to Bill. Under Bill’s leadership, Heritage developed a reputation for best-in-class property management, focusing on operational excellence and delivering exceptional service.
One of Bill’s most significant achievements was leading our growth into association management, which further diversified our capabilities and client base.
In the 1990s, Ken Kirkpatrick acquired Heritage. Bringing his mechanical engineering efficiency and an entrepreneur’s passion for growth, Ken supercharged our trajectory. He tripled the size of our association business and doubled the size of our commercial management division. Ken also infused Heritage with an innovative mindset, expanding into commercial real estate development, acquisitions, and brokerage.
By the 2000s, we sold off our association management arm and focused exclusively on commercial real estate. During this period, we also licensed the NAI brand, elevating our status in the Ocala commercial real estate market. We spun off a dedicated leasing and brokerage division to operate in tandem with our property management team—allowing us to specialize in what we do best while maintaining a strategic partnership with our sister company.
In 2020, Preston Kirkpatrick joined the firm as a Property Manager, bringing fresh insight and a deep appreciation for Heritage’s legacy. By 2023, Preston was promoted to President, carrying on our tradition of hands-on leadership and meticulous property stewardship. Under his guidance, we’ve revisited our core mission—returning to our roots in investment, development, and management—while embracing new technologies, strategies, and partnerships.
In 2024, we rebranded from Heritage Management Corporation to Heritage Commercial, unveiling our new mission statement:
Maximizing Value in Commercial Real Estate through Top-Tier Property Management.
This shift reflects our enduring commitment to delivering high-caliber property management services, particularly for value-add commercial properties in the hands of professional investors.
